PeerBridge Moldova

How it works

How PeerBridge Moldova Works

PeerBridge Moldova is a student-powered tutoring marketplace designed specifically for Moldova. The platform connects high-achieving high school students (tutors) with younger students who need academic support. The idea behind the project is that students often learn more comfortably from peers who have recently mastered the same material themselves and can explain concepts in a relatable way.

On the front page of the app two options appear: Find a tutor or Become a tutor. Depending on which button you press, different facilities open up in the app.

Step 1

For Student-Tutors

For a high school student who decides to become a tutor. Through the Become a Tutor page, applicants submit a detailed profile including:

  • Personal information (name, age, city, school)
  • Subjects they can teach
  • Academic grades and achievements
  • Languages spoken
  • Previous tutoring or mentoring experience
  • Teaching style
  • Lesson format (online or in-person)
  • Availability schedule
  • Hourly and group lesson rates

However, submitting an application does not automatically grant access to the platform. As the founder and director of PeerBridge Moldova, I personally review every application. Before approval, each prospective tutor participates in a one-to-one interview with me. During this interview, I evaluate:

  • Subject knowledge
  • Communication skills
  • Ability to explain concepts clearly
  • Professionalism and reliability
  • Motivation for becoming a tutor

Only tutors who successfully pass this screening process are approved and displayed publicly on the platform. This ensures that parents can trust the quality of every tutor available through PeerBridge. Once approved, tutors receive an email of approval and a public profile showcasing their academic strengths, teaching philosophy, languages, subjects, rates, and availability. Students and parents can then submit lesson requests directly through the platform.

Step 2

For Students and Parents

Students or parents begin by browsing the Find the tutors page. Each tutor profile displays:

  • Subjects taught
  • Academic achievements
  • Languages spoken
  • Hourly rates
  • Teaching style
  • Available lesson formats
  • City and school information
  • Biography and experience

This allows families to compare tutors and choose the person who best fits their needs.

When a suitable tutor is found, the student or parent completes a Lesson Request Form specifying:

  • Subject required
  • Areas where help is needed
  • Preferred lesson format
  • Preferred schedule
  • Contact information
  • Additional notes

The request is then stored in the system and forwarded to the appropriate tutor, who receives an email notification of the request which they have to approve through entering the platform. After the tutor accepts the request, lessons can begin.

Step 3

My Role as Both Tutor and Founder — Supervision & Quality Control

One of the platform's most important features is active oversight by the founder. Unlike many tutoring marketplaces where tutors are approved automatically, PeerBridge maintains direct human supervision. As founder and director, I have administrative access to platform analytics and operational data. This allows me to monitor:

  • The number of tutoring hours completed each week
  • Tutor activity levels
  • Student participation rates
  • Lesson attendance statistics
  • Tutor responsiveness to lesson requests
  • Overall engagement across the platform

These insights help identify exceptional tutors, provide support where necessary, and maintain high standards of educational quality. For example, if a tutor consistently conducts lessons and receives strong engagement from students, this can be recognised and rewarded. Similarly, if attendance patterns indicate issues, I can intervene early to understand the cause and improve the learning experience. This oversight creates accountability for tutors while ensuring that students receive reliable support.
